Police reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior political figure stated the attack left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
